Cupcakes!!!!!

George has iced the cupcakes and they look fab......

The icing was made with 1/2 butter and 1/2 kremelta with icing sugar. She gave up on the no sugar just for today, given it's a birthday.

My Free Food Adventure

The adventure began as a result of my husband having oesophageal cancer and an operation to remove most of his stomach. The complications this created are horrendous if he gets his food intake wrong. With some trial and error and consultation with dietitians, we have worked out that if we stick to a Low GI diet, he should be able to cope pretty well, but there are always exceptions.

The main problem created by getting the food wrong is that he suffers horrid discomfort and his body shuts down into a deep sleep for up to 4 hours. So understanding food and it's impact on his body have become very important for me. If I get it wrong, the standard joke is "She's trying to kill me!" as happened last week with pumpkin and kumura soup. Work that out.

Last month my daughter George (17) who has suffered eczema for many years was diagnosed as being intolerant to dairy,wheat,sugar and soy. Yippee you can imagine how thrilled we all were. So we began problem solving how and what we are all going to eat that won't break the bank or harm the family.

We also have a fit and healthy, tall, well built 15 year old son Harry, that on any given day can empty the fridge.

Tim has been left unable to work and requires me to look after him, I am fortunate that I am a qualified horticulturist and love food, so I can grow it and cook it. I have the time and love to work this out. I decided to start this blog to help out any others who face everyday challenges with food.
